The Witches Are Out

The witches are out on their broomsticks tonight
And if you should see one, you’ll laugh at the sight;
They’re all dressed in black for a Halloween flight
The witches are out on their broomsticks tonight.

The witches are whooping it up in the sky,
(I wonder if they have a licence to fly?)
As zigging and zagging they go speeding by
The witches are whooping it up in the sky.

The witches are having a Halloween ball
A high-flying party for one and for all.
There’s young ones and old ones, and big ones and small
The witches are having a Halloween ball.

The witches are out for a night on the town
But they’re up on broomsticks and not on the ground
And it will be morning before they touch down
The witches are out for a night on the town.

The witches are happy and full of good cheer
For Halloween comes only once in a year
When nobody cares if the witches appear
The witches are happy and full of good cheer

The witches are wearing their tall pointed hats
And riding along are their shiny black cats
They’re flying so reckless, it’s scaring the bats
The witches are wearing their tall pointed hats

The witches are having a wonderful time
Four hundred years old, they are just in their prime
They’re laughing and singing and making up rhymes
The witches are having a wonderful time

The witches are out on their broomsticks tonight
For it’s Halloween and the timing is right
And they won’t give up till they see the daylight
The witches are out on their broomsticks tonight.

The rhythm and beat of this poem is catchy. So’s the happy ways she portrays Hallowe’en.
Illustration is just excellent too..who ever did it?

Louisa Kuitert, from the Story Quilt Team, creates a lot of the images that illustrate the stories. This particular one was a copyright-free, public domain image found on the Internet.
