New Orleans: A Magical Tourist Destination

Arrival in the Big Easy

New Orleans is a wonderful destination for a short holiday. In November, my friend and I flew down for a whirlwind, four day visit. Upon arrival at the airport, we took a shuttle to our hotel but couldn’t find the lobby!

The Royal Sonesta is an elegant, 400 room hotel that fills an entire block of Bourbon Street in the heart of the French Quarter. Disoriented by the hotel’s size, and multiple entrances, we fumbled around and randomly chose a doorway. We entered a wide, 100-foot long hallway lined on each side with more than two dozen exquisite artificial Christmas trees decorated in silver and white. The grand lobby soon came into sight, and shortly thereafter, we were whisked to a comfortable room.

The hotel offers an upscale seafood restaurant, a spacious cocktail lounge with a first-rate jazz band, and a third floor pool. The concierge was knowledgeable and obliging, and it took no time to schedule our tours.
