GRAND SCHEME

Children’s voices, loud and giggly,
along the stream’s banks,
are right out of the grand scheme
that includes every duck,
every Canada goose, every freshwater fish,
on the planet.

Same for the wisdom
as for the foolishness,
the sun’s journey from flower to twilight,
multitudes with their wings
and the rest with wet grass and shiny splashing.

And there, a boy kneeling,
nibbling on the lapping
with no more than a hand.
And a girl’s fistful of breadcrumbs,
such a tiny reserve,
but, once cast upon the waters,
all creatures are feasting.

Kids playing in nature with geese flying overhead.
