The poem, its writing postponed
slips away, past the bus windows roiled with rain
beneath the wheels of a yellow cab
pushing by. It flails far behind me

trapped in a puddle, reflected
in the red brick of the cobbled road
disappears as we turn a corner
never to be truly born.

Pen in hand resting on empty paper.
