After a long history paper, two pepperoni and sausage pizzas, and an hour of Youtube later, Julie and Simon were hanging out in Julie’s basement. Simon always had thought of this room as his second home; Julie even had a pillow and blanket set aside for him in the corner next to the movie cabinet. He glanced over at Julie lounging on her couch, swiping through her phone. Flags depicting the emblems of the Seattle Sounders, Seahawks, and the Washington State Cougars littered the walls of the room along with posters showing country artists like Luke Bryan and Jason Aldean. Because they both liked Seattle sports teams, Simon had started to admire Julie as he got to know her more. It took him a while to like country music; he was always a rock fan, but once he heard “Nothin Town” by Jason Aldean on the radio, he was hooked.
Because Julie was a huge country music fan, she made it a priority to attend Watershed every year with her friends. How she was able to afford the trip every year, Simon didn’t know. Ever since he learned that she went to Watershed he religiously saved his money throughout the year so he could finally go with her.
“Hey Julie, are you planning on going to Watershed this summer?” It was helpful that she was watching a video on her phone so she couldn’t hear him breathing heavily.
“Oh yeah, I’m still figuring out who is all going.”
“Well, I’ve been saving up a lot of my money I’ve earned this year, and I’m thinking about going too.” That got her attention. “And I was wondering if you wanted to go with me?” He almost squeaked out the question.
She stared at him incredulously. “Really? I’d love to go! I’m so happy that you’ve finally decided to come! Oh, my god! Have you seen the lineup? I can’t tell you how excited I am about how Jason Aldean is going to be there! Who are you excited to see?” Once Simon mentioned Watershed, it was like a dam had broken and the water from the reservoir was cascading through. All he could think about was thar they were planning to be in the same campsite.
