HI I AM REED. THAT IS R E E D. LET ME INTRODUCE MYSELF. THIS MY FAMILY.
OKAY SAN LETS TELL THIS STORY WITH STYLE AND LAUGHTER. EVERYONE PULL OUT YOUR PICTURE SLIDES AND SHOW THEM ON YOUR LIVING ROOM WALLS. I KNOW I WILL.
It was summertime long ago. Sandra was due to walk down the long hillside threw the bush and grasshoppers. Down the windy dirt roads to go to my Aunt Winnies house. She had the greatest canned soup and crackers I had ever tasted. She had thick yellow bowls and plates and cups for us to use. I thought they were extra special.
I loved going to her house after swimming in the Okanagan Lake. She lived just off the main road, so it was easy to find her house. I looked for my uncles’ yellow truck to find it and the bowling alley at the end of the street. It was the biggest and most important spot in Peachland I thought.
She would always give us money for candy at the Peachland market. She would walk with us because we did not know what to do.
As my mom spoke in our kitchen facing the hillside towards the neighbour’s chicken coop, she gave us instructions. “You guys go down under the tunnel and in two hours come back.” My sister and my eyes rolled as we were convinced, we knew what we were doing. “We will” we yelled. Arm gestures always worked in moments like that I thought.
The potholes down the hill were full of summer yellow flowers and our hillside forts we had made were very well covered with sticks and brush. I was happy with them as I did not think no one would ever see them.
